**US Model M1A1 Type I Paratrooper Carbine by Inland

World War II


.30 Carbine. 18" barrel. SN: 650273. Parkerized metal arsenal refinish overall set in walnut pistol grip stock with folding butt in wartime configuration. Short stroke piston driven rotating bolt semi-automatic rifle fed by detachable double stack magazines. Barrel maker and date mark INLAND MFG. DIV./GENERAL MOTORS/9-43 with P proof to the barrel forward of the upper handguard. Receiver shows INLAND DIV. marking above the serial number with U.S. CARBINE/CAL. 30 M1 struck into the forward receiver. Punch dot to the upper receiver forward of the two-position rear sight struck with a correct S with serifs to the left side. Set in a high-wood stock with IO struck into the interior and a matching IO to the upper handguard, both indicating correct Inland/Overton production. Handguard features a two-rivet retainer. Type 1 barrel band with three spot weld scars. Rear face of the stock struck with a circle P mark, while the base of the correct "Slim Jim" pistol grip displays Ordnance crossed cannon escutcheon, and IO maker mark. Folding butt has a correct leather pad retained by three brass rivets, and mounts a correctly rough finished buttplate with near illegible numbers to interior face. Correct blued flat top type 2 bolt is struck with a punch dot between the lugs and shows an IO 2 to the left lug. Operating rod stuck H on the base and underlined PI to the interior. Trigger housing mounts a flat type III EI marked magazine release, and the correct unmarked type II crossbolt safety. Right face of the trigger housing displays the horizontal INLAND logo. Type 2 hammer marked IH and the sear R.I. Carbine features both the correct serial number range and barrel date for an example produced in September, 1943. Item comes with an oiler tucked into the cheek pad, canvas sling, OD green canvas two-cell magazine pouch marked AIRTRESS MIDLAND/1944 on the rear face with RAU FASTENER CO./PROF R.I. to the face of the internal fastener. Comes with one commercial thirty-shot magazine marked M2 on the rear face, one fifteen-shot Inland Division IA marked magazine, and one marked circled IU for Underwood. {C&R}

Condition
Very Good as Arsenal Refinished. Bore is Bright with strong rifling throughout and some signs of residue throughout. Metal finish exhibits some internal cycling wear, some pitting to the safety that has been filled in with refinish, and some abrasions. Stock shows scattered light dents and scratches with some sanding and rounded edges. Forward left handguard shows a crack that has been stabilized with wood glue with some wood loss. Muzzle erosion about 2, throat of between 0 and 1.
